2024 Bike Path
Beginning in December 2023, the HOA Board met to discuss how we might allocate our substantial financial reserves to some large community initiatives. After exploring a few options, the decision was made to try to address our 25 year-old bike path with either repairs or replacement.
A lot of work happened behind the scenes in the late winter and spring in order to bring this goal to life. Take a look at the timeline to see how this project progressed and where we are now.
August 2024
Previous contractors who submitted bids have been contacted. We are waiting on answers and expect to have a plan forward after the busy summer season.
July 2024
Our chosen contractor, Wharton, decided to pull his bid for the project. We are now again looking for a new partner to assess and bid on the project.
May 2024
After receiving official word that we had obtained financial support from the Village of Green Oaks, we submitted our contracts to Wharton.
April 2024
The board attended multiple Village of Green Oaks where we presented our bids, proposals, and asked the Village to split the project cost wtih us 50/50 which they formally agreed to do at a closed session later in the month.
March 2024
We received two bids for the work: one from Wharton Contractors and one from Martin Restoration. We were advised to reach out to the Village engineer for feedback. He spoke with Wharton Contracting about their proposal for repaving 2,700 linear feet of paths at a cost of $62,500 (about 2x our current reserves). The village engineer recommended proceeding with the full repaving as it is more cost-effective long-term and avoids potential damage from partial repairs. The project was estimated to take 3-4 days spread over a week.
February 2024
Bid documents for the bike path repairs were created and submitted to local contractors for bids. The mandatory pre-bid meeting was scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 8:00 am. All parties were to meet by the entrance to Post Oak Court. Bids were due on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
